Had a question from our peds coordinator. They like to use 24 g PIV caths for their patients. The last several months have resulted in several infiltrations when pts were sent for power-injected CT scan. CT thinks that using a larger gauge will solve the problem. I've already suggested to her to make sure IV is patent prior to sending pts and to see if a personnel or procedural change has taken place in CT. What do you peds folks do for IV gauges when sending for CT scan with power injection? Any other precautions you use when sending your little ones for CT?
