peds IV cath gauge & CT power inj

Had a question from our peds coordinator.  They like to use 24 g PIV caths for their patients.  The last several months have resulted in several infiltrations when pts were sent for power-injected CT scan.  CT thinks that using a larger gauge will solve the problem.  I've already suggested to her to make sure IV is patent prior to sending pts and to see if a personnel or procedural change has taken place in CT.  What do you peds folks do for IV gauges when sending for CT scan with power injection?  Any other precautions you use when sending your little ones for CT?

We put in what we can get
We put in what we can get in.  Usually a 22g althought CT would ideally like 20 g in everone for power injection.  I know that last year and so far this year our largest number of infiltrations that have been reported as "incident reports"  have been in Radiology.  However, if I'm concerned about the integrity of the vein or the age of the IV, etc. (usually with 24 g)  I will caution the techs and reccommend hand injection.  They are cooperative in this regard.
