I know it is not frequently seen, but I am wondering which is the proper antiseptic for repairing a Groshong. The package insert says that Povidone Iodine is preferred, with no mention of Chlorhexidine, but our policy states Chlorhexidine. I can not find literature for use in Groshong repair, but I am aware that it is prefered in other uses. What do others do?
In Sweden we use Chlorhexidine gluconate 5 mg/ml in 56% ethanol. We haven't used povidone iodine for at least 25 years for any disinfecting purposes, but rather CHG.
