That depends upon the specific insertion procedure. Are you asking about the old through-the-introducer method or the modified seldinger method? For the through the introducer, the size of the introducer must be the size that will accommodate the PICC being inserted because the PICC must be advanced through this introducer. For MST, the finder needle is usually a small standard size of 21 gauge. Lynn
