Vascular access teams

I am on a vascular access team,  we cover critical access hospitals, long term care , rehab and are preparing to take over a new contract that will cover 4-6 acute care facilities that will phase in the coverage for all facilities  over the next year. At one of the acute care facilities we placed 1100 piccs in 2017.   We provide 24/7 coverage  with emphasis on picc and midline insertion and clabsi prevention.  We currently use a phone system that routes calls directly to our team members that are on shift to triage and schedule procedures at various locations.  My question is what methods are other teams usinge,  i.e. answering service vs direct call/page systems. And what pros and cons have you experienced with your method.  Thank you in advance.

Ben,

I contract with a mobie radiology company and place PICC's & Midlines..We service urgent cares, SNF's, LTAC's and rehab facilitites. Most acute hospitals in my area have their own PICC teams. Our clients are provided web access to our site where they are able to place orders, review xrays, ultrasounds, and ekg reports. If they prefer they can call our main office between 6a-10:30p to place orders and request faxed results from dispatchers. We have after hours answering service for stat exams. We cover 24 hrs for PICC & Midline but anything called after 6:30p has to meet clinical indicators necessity for stat procedure.  Our assingment are sent out via text from our computer system, then we text a response...all text and phone conversations are retrivable.
