I have noticed in the INS Standards and in the Policies and Procedures that there is no mention of disinfecting the VAD during the dressing change process, only skin antisepsis.
Did I miss something or is VAD disinfection implied by the skin antisepsis statement or is it simply not called for?
Applying antiseptic solutions directly to the body of the catheter can lead to catheter damage especially if the solution contains alcohol. Check catheter manufacturer instructions for use before applying solution directly to catheter. Lynn
