Ultrasound Systems

I own a small, independant PICC insertion company which places lines at the patient bedside in nursing homes, infusion clinics, and doctor's offices.  I am needing to purchase an ultrasound machine and would love feedback on what everyone likes best.  Most important to me are portability, image quality, dependability, and price.  A few that have been recommended are the Mindray DP-50, Sonosite Nanomaxx, Sonosite 180, and the SiteRite.  Thanks in advance!

Talk with the Reps

My best advice is to talk with the reps from all companies. You'll want to make a list of what you will need in a machine and overall cost. You also want something that will cover you in case of a lawsuit - such as for a DVT - so being able to document the size of the vein accessed may help.

I currently have the SiteRite6 with Sherlock and Sapiens. I love it! I would have liked to get the Vision, with the ability to document my vein size and do doppler flow as well, however my facility covers me in case of any lawsuits that may occur, and I do have a guide that I follow in order to chose the best vein for the size line I'm placing.

You can also trial the machines to see which one works best for you! It's an investment!
