What do you mean by "tunneled PICC"? You can have a PICC inserted into the upper extremity with a short subq tunnel. Or you can insert a PICC thru the IJ and tunnel it out to the shoulder. There is no standard definition so you will need to be more specific about what you are asking. You may be using a catheter labeled as a PICC, but if it is placed in the IJ or subclavian puncture site, it is not being used as a PICC because those sites are not peripheral. Those sites are central, so if that is what you are talking about it would be a CICC. Nurses and physicians are placing all types of CICCs, both VA/Infusion RNs and advanced practice nurses and physicians. It depends upon your state board of nursing rules and regulations about this practice and your hospital policies and procedures. Lynn
