tourniquets

We are looking for a good tourniquet to use as most of the ones in kits loosen up.  Does anyone use the seat belt type and have thme sterilized after each use.  They have always been great but difficult to clean.  any help would be appreciated.  Thanks in advance.  Jackie Tropp

Many years ago, I was given

Many years ago, I was given a package of reusable tourniquets to distribute to my classes as a means of promoting that brand. They did work well but I still have them and did not ever show them to students. As you know, the standard of practice is for each tourniquet to be a single patient item. For any reusable tourniquet  i would be seriously concerned that they would not get cleaned between patients. Fortunately, I have not required any IVs lately but do have lab work drawn every 8 weeks. At Emory Clinic in Atlanta, I see them discard the tourniquet after they finish with it, so they are following the standard. I am certain that everyone might not be, but at least the lab is! So I would only choose a disposable tourniquet and eliminate the concern, costs, and hassle of cleaning them between patients. Lynn
