Our infusion team is performing Picc Insertions (1700 annually), IV restarts (4000 annually), picc draws (60,000 annually), and difficult Peripheral Phlebotomiies (70,000 annually). I am looking to break down each of the tasks we perform into a time distribution chart. I believe we are not meeting our potential in providing appropriate vascular access to patients, because we are using a significant amount of time on peripheral phlebotomy draws--something I think would be more cost effective to pay a phlebotomist to do. I am looking for any literature that might provide me with an average time to complete each of these tasks/procedures. I would appreciate if anyone knows of any literature that might address this.
