The 2016 INS guidelines state that a therapeutic phlebotomy can be done through a central venous access device if already placed and will not interfere with other infusion therapies...
Are there any cons to using the central line for this purpose?
Thanks in advance for your expertise and opinions.
The con is having to manually aspriate from the CVAD using large syringes. You have to pull slowly and the blood is very viscous. Large syringes and small hands could be difficult.
