Wondering, for any of you that are using the Statseal disk and also have a Biopatch protocol, after applying the Statseal, after how many days do you change the dressing and place a Biopatch?
Hi Michael, I don't have an answer, but I do have a question to add. When Statseal has been applied to the insertion site, would this prohibit the CHG in Biopatch from being effective? Would one block the other? Lynn
Hi, It is used in place of the biopatch for the first dressing change. At least that I what we did. it will create a "scab" at the insertion site. That needs to be left alone as it is the seal. Great stuff.
Yes, we are using the Statseal disk and leaving it on for 7 days and replace it with a Biopatch when we do the CVAD dressing change. We like it so much better than the powder form (Bioseal).
The IFU for StatSeal is 7 days. It provides the site a dry and sealed environment that takes dressings to day 7 from insertion without dressing changes. Most of the accounts that we have that use Biopatch put it on at day 7. The site is sealed from insertion. The addition of biopatch gives an extra layer of protection to the external environment that some accounts use. Other dressing products may also be used at day 7, StatSeal is compatible with all. Since the seal is at the skin-catheter junction there is no blocking of the action of the other products.

I got it now. I misread your original question. A good one and hope to read what others are doing. Lynn

Is anyone using the GuardIVa product from Bard? It is supposed to have hemostasis and CHG properties.
Thank you for all comments and questions. Its a difficult one. Hope someone presents some good data soon.
