Stabilization v. Securement?

In the 2016 INS Standards it speaks to using ESD or Engineered Stabilization Device instead of using the more common language of securement device.

Why the use of stabilization instead of securement?

Stabilization device has

Stabilization device has always been used in the INS Standards since we starting adding this as a standard. In 2016, the word "securement" was also added to broaden the concept. Stabllization would apply to preventing the VAD from any movement in any direction while securement would reduce the risk of dislodgment of the VAD. There is a need for attention to both factors. This category of devices has always been known as stabilization devices with a specific definition in the Glossary in the Standards document.
