RADIOLOGY TECHS PLACING PICC INTO PATIENTS AT THEIR BEDSIDES OUTSIDE OF THE DEPARTMENT

I recently noticed at a major medical center in Florida that Radiology Techs are going to patients' bedsides and performing PICC insertions.Â Â It was my understanding that the Techs placed PICC in the Radiology Department with an Interventional Radiologist present.Â Has their role and practice changed?Â

This is totally dependent

This is totally dependent upon the rules and regulations governing their practice from the state board and the policy and procedures at each facility. If they are not in compliance with these, or if there are no polcies and procedures addressing this, then the liability for the individual and the facility skyrockets. Lynn

Do you know if Florida State

Do you know if Florida State reglatory board particularly addresses radiology techs placing PICC outside the department? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
