We are an infusion pharmacy with some home nursing and an infusion suite in our office.

Question is...  Where are you administering the medication after the initial round of doses.

 In office/ suite

In home with nurse for each dose

In home with self-administration

Thanks much

Craig

We work with several infusion

We work with several infusion pharmacies. The common determination seems

to be as follows: If the patient has a recent history of IV abuse or other

similar concerns, the follow-up visits are in the suite. The patient/caregiver will

be evaluated within 4 visits for a teach/train for home infuusion. If

the patient/caregiver are uncomfortable, reluctant, or unable to

infuse, a nurse is assigned for follow up infusions. I hope this answers

your question.

I looked at the website for this drug and found this statement:

  • Your healthcare provider will monitor you during treatment to watch for signs and symptoms of all the serious side effects.

The greatest risk is in people with a history of asthma but it does say that hypersensitivity reactions can happen even after the dose has infused. Wouldn't that indicate the need for infusion only in a setting where monitoring can occur, such as an infusion clinic or having the home care nurse remain with the patient? I am not sure how long this drug has been out, but it would seem that we don't have much experience with it yet.
