I have reviewed the INS Standards of Practice for push-pull method for obtaining a blood sample from a CVAD. We work mostly with the pediatric population. Are there any guidelines for volume of NS to use for the push/pull method? Is it dependent on priming volume of CVC? Are there any recommendations for catheter size NOT to use for the push-pull method? Any other info regarding push/pull method would be helpful.
What is in the standards is what was in the published literature at the end of 2014. I have not done another search for 2015 forward but that would be needed to determine if there is any new information.
