No organization has published any official recommendations. Some nurses have their own but nothing recognized by any group. In the presence of any bleeding risk, a PICC will be the catheter of choice since there are no vital organs to damage if bleeding should occur. Bleeding in the extremity can be easier to manage than bleeding from a subclavian or jugular site. But most report that there are very few bleeding problems from PICC insertion even when the coag valves are high. Lynn
