Does anyone have any knowledge of any studies/literature out there of which line is better and how to determine the best for the patient and his needs?  We have doctors that do not want to place any CVCs at all and want only PICCs, but we are finding that PICCs are becoming more difficult to place when patients have had numerous PICCs or limited access to only one arm. Triple lumen PICCs may be good while patient is in the critical care area, do you exchange them when a patient only needs one lumen? doesn't that cause more trauma to the arm veins? Â
