Power Ports

Our facility recently started placing power injectable port a caths thus leaving us with a mixture of power ports and nonpower ports. Our challenge is how to identify which port the patient has so we can properly decide on which type of needle to use (power vs. nonpower). Currently we are only using nonpower huber needles and not utilizing ports for power injecting. We do understand that a radiographic confirmation is needed prior to power injecting, however we would like to have a system in place that also identifies or alerts staff prior to getting to that point. We also want to help prevent power injection through a nonpower port.

Does anyone have a system in place? If so, would you mind sharing?

Thanks

Tammy
