I would like to know the most common protocol for heparin locking a port-a-cath. Do you use heparin 100u per ml or 10u per ml.

The INS flush protocol cards recommend 100 unit per ml for a port. Our oncologists prefer this as well.\

I am not clear if the question on port flushing is @ time of deaccessing or while accessed and recieving intermittent meds.
While accessed, recieving intermittent fluids/meds, 10 unit/ml hep flush is used. We do not use Positive pressure caps.
When deaccessing, 100 units/ml hep lock is used.
The port would then be flushed every month to maintain.
