A syringe filled with medication to be injected connected directly to the needleless connector on the VAD hub? If that is how you are giving it, you should be able to completely eliminate all air from the syringe and filter is not needed. The risk with PFO comes from not being able to remove all bubbles from admin set such as gassing out of solution, etc.
