We have done epidural PCA in our home patients, but they have always been adults. We may be admitting a patient this week with an epidural PCA that is 6yrs old. We aren't sure why they are thinking of going this direction as she already has a broviac. She is on high doses of IV narcotics and we wonder if they are trying to do epidural to decrease the dose and side effects. In Infusion, we are ok with this, but the Home Care seems concerned because of her age. I would like to hear any thoughts on this from those of you who have had experience with pediatric epidural PCAs. We do have pediatric nurses on staff so that is not the issue. Thanks in advance!!
