Patient teaching materials post extravasation

If inpatients have an extravasation at your facility, do you give them handouts regarding management, things to report, and treatment options?  At my hospital the IV Team provides verbal instruction only.  What is best practice?

 Best practice would be to

Best practice would be to provide this information in writing. Most patients and families do not remember what is verbal told to them when they need it later. Infiltration/extravasation is the most frequent cause of infusion-related lawsuits. This information is critical for patients to be told and to have a reference for hours later when they may really need it. Lynn
