pacemakers and PICCS
I know that we try to avoid the side the pacer is on when we insert PICCS.  But why, infection, disilodge the pacer wires or stenosis of the vein.  Is there any literature to support any of these reasons?  I realize that it just makes sense but I would like to see the printed why.

I also understand that this

I also understand that this makes sense.  I am not sure of evidence.  If you find the evidence, please share!

We do try to avoid the side of the pacemaker or AISD.  Is the vein too crowded with all of these lines?  We are not sure.  Will the removal of the PICC interfere with  the lines placed for pacemaker or AISD?   We are not sure.

We try to only place them on the side of the pacemaker or AISD with the cardiologists OK.

I have inserted  a dual

I have inserted  a dual lumen PICC in the same arm.  It was an old pacemaker and thoracic did ok the PICC.  I was told that it was ok because it was an old pacemaker.  haven't found any literature on this.  have you?
