occlusive dressing after discontinuation of PICC

We have always used an occlusive drsg and bacitracin ointment when discontinuing lines.  I wanted to change our policy to use petroleum based ointment instead of bacitracin.  We require and order for Bacitracin and Lippincot changed to petroleum based ointment and we frequently follow their nursing policies.  however, I do not see this listed in the INS standards and received questions to validity of continuing the practice ie. Ointment and occlusive dressing.  Is this no longer a current practice?
