Recently we have had one of our Intensivist requesting several patients get Double lumen Midline's Bilaterally.
I wanted to ask is there any precedence or evidence to support this practice?
Do others do this or do you provide pushback?
We feel this is not a good practice because due to the fact of doubling the risk factors & cost.
I am not aware of any studies on the use of 1 dual lumen midline much less 2. The anatomy of veins at midline location and the quantity of blood flow is just not sufficient to support the wide variety and volume of fluids and meds that the SVC can tolerate.
