Midline Insertion

Does anyone insert midlines without maximum sterile barrier technique?

What kind of transparent dressing do you use?

How do you handle extension set/connector changes?

We are currently attempting to implement the Powerglide Pro at my facility and these are some of the questions we are struggling with.

 The INS Standards call for

The INS Standards call for max barriers for all midline insertions, however those who use the newer designs that have a protective sheath around the catheter are now questioning max barriers for these types of midlines. There is no evidence to support NOT using max barriers.

RE transparent dressings. You should do a trial of several brands to see what works best for you and your staff. It may also be a case of purchasing contracts and pricing that restricts you to a single brand.

Not quite sure what you are asking about "handle extension set and connector changes". These add-on devices should be changed at least weekly. Can you be more specific about what you need to know about those?
