Microcontainer blood tubes vs. standard size

Hello:

Is there any guidance on when to use microcontainer blood tubes vs. standard sized blood tubes in pediatrics? Are there any considerations for weight or hemoglobin levels?

I would follow the manufacturers instruction for use and work in collaboration with your lab. INS Standards do not address this in the Phlebotmy Standard, however there is a lot of information in that standard about blood conservation. If your lab says they can run any test with the microtubes, that is what I would want to use for all patients including adults. Lynn
