IV push practice

Hello,

Our organization is thinking of extending the practice of IV pushes to nurses in non-speciality areas. Does anyone has similar practice in their organization, and willing to share how does it impact the nurses' workload and patient safety.

Thank you

From my experience, manual

From my experience, manual IVP takes more nursing time and all nurses must be educated on the importance of taking the required amount of time to give the med. The label should clearly state the time required for pushing. It should not just say "IVP" or "IV push". This is done all the time in home care where the patient/family pushes over the required amount of time. I fear busy nurses not taking the required length of time though.
