IV in foot

As an older nurse I would absolutley not place an IV in the foot.  However, we are currently getting resistance from newer nurses insisting this is ok.  I would appreciate any current literature etc on the topic Pro or Con.  I really think very wrong ,but if I am wrong will accept all info.  Thanks!!!!

See INS Standard 27 Site

See INS Standard 27 Site Selection. Foot is not an appropriate choice in adults and infants old enough to walk. The standard on vascular visualization now means that near infrared light and ultrasound improves our ability to locate appropriate sites in the upper extremity, This means that the feet are rarely used now. Even if the foot is used, it must be considered as a very temporary site while a more apporpiate plan for VA access is decided. I have refused to defend nurses in lawsuits involving use of veins in the foot of ambulatory adults.
