I have recently taken over my position as Outpatient Infusion Coordiantor. This is a new position to the facility and I have no reference to how it should be set up. The staff looks to me for IV questions, but I feel that I am not always able to help them. I would really like to become IV certified. Does anyone have any recommendations on any types of classes I can or should take?
The word "certification" is used incorrectly by many nurses. Certification should be used when one is referring to a professional organization offering a standardized national test administered by a separate corporation for the protection of the general public. The use of this word to mean you took an online course or attended a class is not correct. There is no "certifiation" for procedures like insertion of a PIV or PICC. There is the certifixation in infusion nursing offered by the Infusion Nurses Certitication Corporation. This test is offered in March and Sept each year and covers 8 core content areas. You can learn more about it at www.incc.org. There are many, many educational offerings. My company offers both basic and advanced online courses, traditional classrooom presentations, and consulting on all infusion therapy. Learn more about our courses at www.hadawayassociates.com. Just remember an education course will usually provide a certificate of completion or a certificate of attendance but this is definitely not the same as certification. Lynn
