Are any of you using intra-osseus for I.V. infusion? Can you direct me to some written standards/procedures? Who is inserting them?
I had gathered info on this to see if there was a need for our IV Team to place IO. The intensivist I spoke with didn't feel there was a need since we are available 24/7 to place PICCs. I had seen it demonstrated at INS conf. Very interesting!
For more info on IO therapy go to WWW,Vidacare.com (maker of EZ-10) and http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/80431-overview.
I also found some good policies at http://Mercymemorial.org/EMS/intraosseous_infusion,htm. Also google Mountain-Valley EMS agency policies and procedures. You will probably have to rewrite to suit your institution. Happy hunting! Vickey
