After a implanted port is placed, how long after the placement do we have to let the incision heal prior to accessing it? we had a patient that had a port placed, the port needle was NOT left in place, and the port was needed the next day. the incision is still new, and for us to access, we needed to clean the site with CHG. Worried about the irritation the CHG will cause to the brand new incision only 24 hours later. Is this ok? what is the recommendation for waiting to access a brand new port?
It can be accessed immediately, no standard on any wait time.
