heparin and port

We have a pt with a port to be flushed monthly- she has develped issues with heparin and it cannot be used- what are some options???

Normal saline will work. Also

Normal saline will work. Also INS Standard on Flushing and Locking has alternative antimicrobial locking solutions listed. But all of them must be prepared by a compounding pharmacy as there are none commercially available. If you want to go that route, I would probably chose 4% sodium citrate.
