We have had a recent increase if CLABSI . We have been actively using all central lines for all lab tests. In an effort to reduce CLABSI we will try to reduce if not eliminate the lab draws from the lines.
I have read in this site in the past, of a form to inform the pt of the risks of blood draws from the line should they refuse a venipuncture. I believe it looked like Wendy Erickson was a key person who had the form. Does anyone have this form to share? My email is [email protected]
We are going to create a decison tree/chart to also help determine the risks vs benefits to individualize the decision of obtaining line draws versus venipuncture for each pt. Someone from the PICC team will assist in the determination of the pt would be better suited for lab draws from line or venipuncture.
I appreciate any feedback or suggestions as we move forward with this process.
