I have been asked by our Emergency Dept. for evidence that IV's started in the field under poor aseptic technique need to be changed in 48 hours. I have searched the INS guidelines and CDC but can't find that specific statement. Can anyone give me the specific guideline and reference? Thanks!
Neither CDC not INS uses that language of "in the field". The statements use language pertaining to the emergent conditions. This is not limited to pre-hospital insertions but includes all settings when any type of VAD is inserted under emergent conditions when correct aseptic technique cannot be used. These statements are in both CDC and INS documents.
