We had a patient requiring Factor IX administration pre and post op. Is anyone familiar with the administration of this medication? Are there recommendations as to the IV gauge or site needed for optimal administration?
Small gauge PIV is good. Hemophilia patients do their own venipuncture with a winged needle and give these factors to themselves. Follow closely the directions for dilution as there are things like shaking the vial that you cannot do, but those instructions should come with the med.
