We are looking to restart placing PICCs in the nursing homes and hospice pt's and need some input from those of you on this site that use the necessary equipment. When the standards changed for PICC insertions we stopped placing them in the nursing homes but the time has come that we need to resume this necessary service. We are contracted with a company now that travels all over and places PICCs for us when needed. I do not feel comfortable asking them what they use so I am asking here instead.
What devices are reliable and not too difficult to transport? Does anyone use the VPS or Sherlock 3CG in the nursing homes/hospice? Which ultrasound machine is easily transported yet still provides a good picture? Any thoughts good or bad would be greatly appreciated.
