Dual Lumen ELC

HI Everyone,

First time posting, and I need some help. Aquapheresis (Aquadex-name of device) getting ready to begin here at my facility. With this procedure, the complany is recommending their 6fr Dual Lumen Extended Length Catheter, which is a stainless steel coil reinforced 15 cm (internal) catheter that is primarily inserted into the basilic vein, and on many patients is threaded beyond the axillary. I need some advice.

1) I've been unable to locate info on this in the INS SOP.

2) Everything I've been taught says lines should either terminate prior to the axilla (like a midline) or should rest centrally. This line looks to terminate in the mid-clavicular area.

3) So far, I've not been provided any other facilities that are using it, so I have no one to talk to to hear the good, bad and the ugly (if you will).

4) Need help getting a policy written to include above info.

Does anyone here have any experience with or thoughts on the matter?

Many thanks,

Shelly
