After 30+ years our IV Therapy department is relinquishing some long held roles. We will be starting an early assessment program (right vascular access device on admission), placing more PICCs due to increased time availability and begin daily monitoring of central lines. We will not be a strict PICC team as we are keeping other vascular access duties.
There has been a discussion of changing our department name from the IV department to Vascular Access Services. I think that just changing a name will have little effect unless we change our appearance as well. Currently, the uniform is at the discretion of the employee.
