I was wondering if anyone has a policy on removing debris (old blood at catheter siite, foreign material) from exit site of central venous access devices. (Hickman, PICC etc.). If so can you email me it. or let me know what cleansing agent you use to remove the debris please. Thanks
I would consider this a prn dressing change, under our policy. wet, loose, or soiled. jWe don't specifically have a policy for removing debris.
I would use ChloraPrep. If necessary, a sterile swab to remove any really stuck old blood from the site, after thoroughly soaking and cleaning with ChloraPrep.
