CVC infiltration and extravasation

Hello all, I co-wrote a policy awhile back on management of extravasation and infiltration. Lynn Hadaway helped along the way.

I assumed that it was written for PVC events and CVC events, while the policy does not differentiate.

Are they treated differently?

Our pharmacist who co-wrote it states it only applies to PVCs and if there is a rare CVC event the policy  should read" call the pharmacist for intervention."

Please advise.

I have no experience at all with CVC infiltration or extravasation.

Thank you

Dee

There are some differences.

There are some differences. Injury could be at insertion site or catheter tip in the chest. Percutaneous insertion vs implanted port. There could be need for medical decision making if surgical treatment is necessary. Pharmacy is involved with use of antidotes but those are not always used for cvad. My online course on infiltration and extravasation has more information. Www.hadawayassociates.com
