Our facility is in the process of revising our computer documentation for CVADs. We plan to include an option for the nurses to evaluate the need to keep the device in on a daily basis. Is the correct terminology "medical necessity"? If so, is there any defined criteria to help determine this? Can you say it is a medical necessity to keep a CVAD in for blood draws only on a patient with less than optimal peripheral veins?
