CRNI exam

Well there has not been a post recently related to the CRNI exam.  I have taken that exam now twice. The first time I think I missed it by 15, the second time by 4.  I do not like the feedback provided. I do not like not knowing what I got right and what I got wrong when I have a lot invested in it. How many times should I take this exam. This is becoming expensive for me.  Last percentage of passers was 69%.  Im thankful I have not went around telling people I was going to take it.

Just for the record. I have bought every recommended study material suggested.  The latest DVD is so boring I have fallin asleep each time I sat down to listen, and why cant you listen as a music CD so you can at least listen in the car where you would hope you could stay awake.

Still studying

Well I am sorry you are

Well I am sorry you are having such a hard time. I do know of nurses that have taken this exam many times before they passed it. No certification exam should be easy. Passing this exam signifies that the person has mastered an advanced body of knowledge in infusion nursing. The passage rates in the high 60% is typical of this and all other nursing certifications. If your practice does not include one or more components of the exam (e.g. pediatrics, or oncology) those will naturally be your most difficult parts. I find the same thing in my certification from the American Nurses Certification Corporation in nursing professional development. So those parts that are not involved in my day to day practice are more difficult. But I would rather have an exam that is tough because it has more meaning when you finally accomplish that goal. Only you can determine how many times you should take it. Lynn

Didn't the test center give your a brake down of the test (analysis)? First time I missed by 1 and took the test while febrile with the flu. I do remember having to wait for the printer to get the test results and score break down. I knew the areas I was weak in without the analysis though.

You can rip the audio from the DVD and then burn it to CD’s to play your car. Search the web there are free programs (shareware) available. I took the test 3 yrs ago with the old VHS tapes so I can't comment on the new DVD. IMO I see no way to make the content stimulating, the old tapes were done well but I too feel a sleep many times listening to them. I found that taking notes during play back and taking breaks helped to stay focused. I would then go along with my notes while listening to the tapes, adding and reorganizing information as needed.

Hang in there...good luck!

I think the new DVD is very

I think the new DVD is very good.  I studied with the old cassette tapes and thought they were good too.  I agree that it would be better to have the DVD in CD form (not so techno-savy here) and didn't know you could do it.  I hate to sound preachy, but if you're having trouble falling asleep while you're listening perhaps you should take a nap before you pop it in.  LOL.......I agree with Lynn.  If the CRNI is a worth having it's worth studying for.  I'm very proud of mine.  Also of a co-worker who passed the exam this year.

CRNI exam

I just took and passed it on 9/11. I am an excellent test taker and have aced almost every test I've ever taken, all my life. I passed this one with an 81%. It truly is the hardest test I've ever taken. I also took and passed in in 2002 [I think in the 70%] both times I walked away from the test not knowing whether I passed. Unfortunately I let my certification lapse during a time when I was not working in the field. I'll never do THAT again.

I did not like the DVD but it DID help push things into my head. I found the practice test to be very valuable because it showed me my strengths and weaknesses - where I needed to focus my studying energy. My weak spots are oncology - never worked in it - and fluids and electrolytes, I think because of the need to memorize so many numbers and relationships.

It is a hard test.

I know people who have taken it 3 times before passing. So only you know how many times is enough times for you.

Did your score improve each time? Are there areas where you do well?

Good Luck!!!

I was in the Class of 1985,

I was in the Class of 1985, the first year the text was given. So I can't give you any guidance on taking it today. But I would encourage you and everyone to keep trying to take  and pass it. I firmly believe that a test that is more difficult has more value than one that is very basic and easy to pass. Virtually all nursing certification exams have passing rates in the high 60% range, so this is quite common regardless of whether you are trying to be certified in emergency nursing, infection prevention, or critical care. I wish you much success because I know how valuable this certification truly is. Lynn

CRNI exam

Just took the exam today and passed it 77% and happy had a really bad cold but just couldn't put it off. Lots of stress at work and exam compromised my immune system a bit :)

I took the CDE exam and the Med-Surgical certification  both were difficult but this exam was tough I am a pretty good test taker and I thought I would do better read several books  looked up drugs via pharmology and med surg text book Ms Coulter class is great get the cd if you can't attend and also purchase the workbook it really gives your studying focus if you are really self directed just the workbook plus core curriculuim should cover it I took the oppportunity to build a bit of a resource library

Huge Congratulations!!! I am sure you are elated. So I would guess that you will be at meetings every 3 years so you don't have to take the test again. Hope to see you at one soon. Lynn
