Chemotherapy via midline/long lines

I would appreciate sharing of experience/practice.........A few physicians have given the order to infuse chemotherapy agents/vesicantsÂ through PICC's with their tips terminating in areas other than the lower SVC (i.e. subclavian or proximal SVC).Â Â Has anyone had similar experience?Â We feel caught between adhering to standards and following MD orders.Â

My reply to those physicians would be a firm, resolute no, no way, not any day! There is evidence that these suboptimal tip locations leads to a greater risk of thrombosis, therefore you must be a patient advocate and not blindly follow what these uninformed physicians are telling you to do. Lynn
