We are looking to reduce our routine blood draws from CVADs. Patient's have great peripheral veins, central catheter placed for vesicants (etc.) Reducing connection/infection/occlusions.
My question is do you allow blood sampling below the PICC? Is there any data for/against this practice?
Historically, we have not allowed peripheral sticks below a PICC but I'm wondering if this is something that has just been carried on "because that is what we have always done".
