Best Practice question

Is biopatch or chlorhexidine impregnated dressings in any best practice bundles. We do not use them at our hospital due to a low infection rate (not 0 but close) We are trying to get them to use them on central lines on our at least our LVAD patients. We need proof that this practice would be beneficial and cost-effective.Thanks. Debbie G.

All studies are on the CHG

All studies are on the CHG sponge. None published on the CHG gel dressing yet. This is not part of a bundle but it is addressed by CDC guidelines for use on short term catheters. Use on long term catheters after the first week of dwell may not be beneficial because the greatest infection risk comes from hub manipulation at that point. Lynn

CHG sponge

Review CDC recommendations for CHG sponge which is now a 1B category

Reference list of articles to support usage is in CDC 2011 guidelines
