I noticed that the 2011 INS policies and Procedures state upon insertion of a PICC, there should be a measurement of the mid forearm and the mid upper arm. I we no longer are using upper mid arm circumferences due to no scientific data to indicate a DVT or problem, why are we doing the initial measurements?

We are no longer doing routine, repetitive arm circumference measurements. However a baseline measurement may be helpful when a problem is suggested by other signs and symptoms. Lynn
