If your hospital is affected by the Baxter minibag shortage due to the hurrican in Puerto Rico, what is the substitution being used? Anyone using Buretrols?
Metered chambers like a Buretrol would be my very last resort due to many issues with them. Obtaining minibags from another supplier like B Braun or Hospira, or for some drugs, if possible for the drug giving them by push using a manual push or a syringe pump would be other options that are far superior to a metered chamber. I talked to a pharmacist about this and another suggestion came up. Purchase empty 50 or 100 mL bags and fill them in the pharmacy from large bags. This might be the best option for facilities that do not have enough syringe pumps to meet the need.
Yes, for some home care situations. I thought of those but was wondering if hospitals would think they are too expensive for all meds. Plus the lack of high end very accurate rate control would be a problem for some drugs in hospitalized patients. Lets hope this situation gets better fast.
We did talk about the rate control devices, but accuracy concerns and time to have staff understand proper usage/expectations of the device somewhat removed the use from our plans. Thank You for the responses.

Another alternative would be rate contol elastomeric device, such as the IFLOW Eclipse.
