Air embolism after line removal
I need some help finding references as to how long the patient must remain flat after a non-tunnelled central line removal.   The INS procedure and standards are very vague about that.

I can not provide a specific reference but most procedures that I am aware of call for an ointment-based dressing, totally adherent, left on for 24 hours and the patient flat for 30 minutes. This level of procedure detail will not be found in the INS standards. Lynn

But how do I justify the 30
But how do I justify the 30 minutes and keeping the patient flat ?  I can find the procedure but I need to make it evidence based.

I am remembering article in

I am remembering article in the Critical Care Nursing that included a review of practice and a literature review, that lead to the ointment on the site and having the patient flat for 30 minutes.

If I can find it, I will send more info so you too can read it and see where their references lead them to that decision.
